Lead Builder & Co Founder
Experience and skill are critical in the building industry and Rob has plenty! His desire take his skillset to the next level to provide for his growing family motivated him to go into business for himself. As one of the founding owners of Emphasis Homes, he is a key member of the team overseeing every build.
A licensed and trade qualified builder (LBP) with a wide range of experience perfected over 20 years, Rob has a genuine passion for building and craftsmanship, particularly the technically challenging projects. He has also worked extensively with concrete and foundations, making him the complete all-rounder with the ability to tackle even the most challenging builds. He is a perfectionist and problem solver with an eye for detail.
His precision and persistence benefits you on site. When he’s not on the building site, you will find him out fishing on the Gulf or coaching his son’s rugby team.
Design and Build Consultant & Co Founder
Tayla is often one of the first people you will meet when you contact Emphasis Homes. As one of our Design and Build Consultants, she will work with you throughout the building process. As a Co-founding owner, she is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable in her role and has a keen eye for detail through her own experience. Having designed and built her own family home, as the very first Emphasis Home, she understands the process from your perspective.
With a business degree majoring in Entrepreneurship, and a keen eye for design she expressed her interest in joining the guys. After spending time in the construction industry alongside Rob and Derek, learning valuable project coordination and management skills, she decided to combine her love for architecture and design with her business skills to co-found Emphasis Homes.
As a local mum of two young boys, she knows how to design with the needs of a family in mind! When she’s not helping clients build their dream homes, she can be found spending precious time with her two little boys and her husband, making the most of our coastal walks and beaches.
Co-Founder
A passionate entrepreneur with over 30 years running companies, Derek started his first successful business at 24. After building his own home in Whitford, he began his journey into the construction industry.
Derek had always felt a passion for property development and enjoyed his latest venture into Construction. After identifying the need for a more cohesive Design and Build process, he quickly seized the opportunity. The key point of difference being to employ his own team to remove a number of common pain points he’d experienced during his own building project.
One of the first people you will meet, Derek is a genuine people person who loves supporting his clients to ensure they have a smooth transition from design stage to the building process. He is readily available to answer any higher level queries throughout the build, however the majority of his role is behind the scenes, ensuring everything is running smoothly. Derek is a firm believer in the benefits of a positive workplace culture and has a passion for growing our team from within.
Outside of work, Derek is a true family man. When not spending time with family, you’ll find him practicing his handicap on the local golf course or watching rugby – in particular the Auckland varsity team who we sponsor!
Design & Build Consultant
Megan has worked as a Design & Build Consultant/Project co-ordinator with us for over three years. She came to us with prior experience working for another local construction company where she picked up a variety of skill sets, making her a great asset to our team from day one.
Megan has a flair for design and she is great with people. Assisting customers with their design/fittings & fixtures selections is where she shines brightest. She is a spreadsheet queen, co-ordinating with suppliers and our team on site to ensure every project runs as smoothly as possible.
Megan is a local, who loves living on a farm. She also loves visiting the local markets for fresh produce and is currently using her skills on improvements to her very own tiny home. This experience has helped her learn lots of tricks and clever design ideas for small spaces.
LBP & Project Manager
Todd is an integral member of our team and is one of our leading Project Managers.
As a licensed and trade qualified builders (LBP) with over twenty years of experience, he is valued and highly respected. He is also one of the friendliest Site Managers you will ever come across!
If you cant find Todd on one of our building sites, directing the team and keeping the build project running seamlessly, you’ll probably find him catching the nearest wave!
Group Builders
We are proud to employ our own team of qualified builders and passionate apprentices. Here at Emphasis Homes, we believe in hiring from within and encourage career development for all of our staff.
We believe in creating a positive learning environment for trainee and apprentice builders. We offer a ‘learn on the job’ programme for novice apprentices within Emphasis Construction, our sister company and often hire the best to come and work with us at Emphasis Homes.
